Bucknell Wrestling's David Marble Named Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week

March 10, 2008

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Sophomore David Marble (Harpursville, N.Y./Harpursville) of the Bucknell wrestling team notched Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week honors on Monday, following his performance at the EIWA Tournament this past weekend, where he qualified for the NCAA Championships for the second straight season.

At the EIWA Torunament, held at Franklin & Marshall, March 8-9, Marble finished as runner-up in the 133-pound weight class. In the championship match, he came just one point short of fourth-seeded Joseph Baker of Navy, falling by a score of 5-4. Marble, who was the No. 3-seed in the tournament, advanced to the championship match after scoring a 5-3 win over No. 2 Seth Ciasulli of Lehigh in the semifinal round. With his finish at EIWAs, Marble earned an NCAA berth after competing at the NCAA Championships a year ago with a wild card berth.

Joining Marble at the NCAA Championships will be classmates Andy Rendos (Brockway, Pa./Brockway Area) and Shane Riccio (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills). All three sophomores came away from the EIWA Tournament as place-winners this past weekend. Bucknell took eighth as a team with 43.5 points, while Cornell successfully defended its 2007 title, taking first with 128 points.

The NCAA Championships will take place in St. Louis, Mo., on Mar. 20-22, as the three Bison will vie for All-America status.
