Bucknell Women's Track and Field Competes At Akron Open

AKRON, Ohio - The Bucknell women's track and field team finished the Akron Open on Saturday, with junior Kati Dempsey (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley), senior Offeibea Hanson-Hall (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) and senior Victoria Gilbert (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) posting all-time marks for the Bison.

Dempsey tied her career-best mark of 5-5 in the high jump (blue division) to win the event. She posted the sixth-best height in program history. In the gold division for the 800-meter run, Hanson-Hall placed fifth with a career-best time of 2:14.56, the seventh-fastest time in Bucknell history. She was followed by Gilbert in sixth place, with her career-best time of 2:15.83, the 11th-fastest time in program history.

Top finishes in running events included sophomore Stephanie Evans (York, Pa./Central York) placing 20th in the 60-meter dash (gold division), running a time of 8.10. Evans went on to place 14th in the 200-meter dash (blue division), clocking a time of 26.43. Junior Megan Hathaway (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) posted a top finish for the Bison in the 400-meter dash (gold division), placing 14th with a time of 59.33.

In the 800-meter run (blue division), junior Jenny Dalzell (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) notched a second-place finish with a time of 2:19.88. In the gold division for the mile, senior Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock Area) paced the Bison with a third-place finish in 5:04.42, while sophomore Laura Cundey (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) was the top finisher for the Bison in the blue division for the mile, placing fourth in 5:17.05.

In the gold division for the 3,000-meter run, junior Gillian Nordquist (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) took 16th in 10:23.99, while freshman Alaina Chodoff (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) led the Bison with a fifth-place finish in the 3,000-meter run (blue division), clocking a time of 10:44.60. In the gold division of the 5,000-meter run, junior Nicole Falcaro (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) led Bucknell with a 10th-place finish (18:16.15). Bucknell's 4x400 relay team of sophomore Allison Janda (Plymouth, Mich./Salem), sophomore Jennifer Pierce (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands), Hathaway and senior Mariel Fink (Pennington, N.J./Hun School of Princeton) took fourth with a time of 3:55.13.

In field events, sophomore Amy Mantush (Drums, Pa./Hazleton) led the Bison in the long jump (blue division) with a distance of 17-6, placing seventh. Mantush also took fourth in the high jump (gold division) with a mark of 5-4 ¼. With a distance of 51-4 ½, senior Amanda Mockbee (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) placed eighth in the weight throw (blue division). Mockbee went on to place seventh in the shot put (blue division) with a mark of 41-2 ¼. In the blue division for the triple jump, senior Nicole Ayala (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) finished second with a distance of 35-9 ¼. Freshman Rebecca Frey (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) finished seventh in the gold division for the pole vault (11-6 ¼) while senior Ashley Curry (Lewistown, Pa./Lewistown Area) finished fifth in the pole vault (blue division) with a height of 10-0.

The Bison will return to action next Saturday, Feb. 9, in Lewisburg, Pa. for the Bucknell Winter Classic.
