Bucknell Women's Track and Field Finishes Second at PL Outdoor Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - After leading at Day One of the 2008 Patriot League Outdoor Championships, the Bucknell women's track and field team placed second, just two points behind Army, as the league meet concluded on Saturday afternoon in Annapolis. Army compiled 148 points to finish first ahead of second-place Bucknell (146), third-place Lafayette (137), fourth-place Holy Cross (78), fifth-place Navy (70.33), sixth-place Lehigh (68.66), seventh-place Colgate (23) and eighth-place American (11).

Senior Amanda Mockbee (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) led the way for the Bison, winning the discus throw with an NCAA East Regional qualifying distance of 157-8. Her mark was a career best and sits second on Bucknell's all-time top-10 list for the event. Sophomore Chelsey Musante (Shelton, Pa./Shelton) also scored in the discus with a fifth-place finish (127-9). Musante went on to lead Bucknell in the shot put, posting a career-best throw of 42-4 ¾ to finish fourth with the eighth-best mark in program history. Mockbee followed in sixth with a distance of 41-11 ½.

In the triple jump, sophomore Amy Mantush (Drums, Pa./Hazleton) recorded an ECAC-qualifying distance of 39-1 for second. Her mark is also the second-best in Bucknell history. Also scoring in the event was senior Denise Manero (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge). She placed sixth with a distance of 37-6.

The Bison clocked ECAC-qualifying times in both relay events on Day Two. Bucknell placed fourth in the 4x100 relay with a time of 48.16, which is the fifth-fastest in program history. In the 4x400 relay, Bucknell took second with a time of 3:51.84.

Bucknell had four athletes score in the 800-meter run. Junior Jenny Dalzell (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) led the way, placing second in 2:12.45, the fifth-fastest time in Bucknell history. Senior Andrea Wright (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) followed in third, clocking a career-best time of 2:13.14, which is also the 10th-fastest in school history. Senior Offeibea Hanson-Hall (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) took fifth with a time of 2:14.44 and sophomore Allison Janda (Plymouth, Mich./Salem) took sixth with a time of 2:15.20.

In the 1,500-meter run, senior Erin Cranmer-Hart (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) led the Bison, taking second in 4:38.77. She was followed by freshman Sarah Moniz (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet Regional), who took third with the 10th-best time in Bucknell history (4:40.32). Also scoring for Bucknell in the event was junior Jessica Hibbert (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg). She placed sixth with a time of 4:43.77. Moniz went on to score for Bucknell in the 5,000-meter run, placing sixth in 17:59.39.

Three Bison scored for the Bison in the high jump. Mantush led the way with a second-place finish and a height of 5-5, while Manero placed fourth with a height of 5-3. Junior Kati Dempsey (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley) notched a sixth-place finish, also with a height of 5-3. Mantush went on to place eighth in the final for the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.15. In the 400-meter hurdles, freshman Jamie Leacock (Howell, N.J./Howell) scored for the Orange and Blue, placing fourth with a time of 1:04.57.

In the final for the 100-meter dash, sophomore Stephanie Evans (York, Pa./Central York) took sixth with a time of 12.51, while sophomore Kristin Steele (Shiremanstown, Pa./Trinity) took eighth with a time of 13.00. Evans went on to place seventh in the final for the 200-meter dash, stopping the clock at 25.67.

On day two of the heptathlon, junior Rebecca Eppleman (Chester Springs, Pa./Great Valley) compiled a total of 3,662 points. She went 14-11 ½ in the heptathlon long jump (443), 85-11 in the javelin (404) and 2:49.11 in the 800-meter run (473).

The Bison are now set to send qualifiers to the ECAC Championships in Princeton, N.J., May 16-18.
