Bucknell's Amanda Mockbee Named Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week

May 5, 2008

LEWISBURG, Pa - After winning one event and scoring in three events total for the Bucknell women's track and field team this past weekend at the 2008 Patriot League Outdoor Championships, senior Amanda Mockbee (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) was tabbed as Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday.

Mockbee was Patriot League Champion in the discus throw, recording an NCAA East Regional standard of 157-8. Her mark was a career best and sits second on Bucknell's all-time top-10 list for the event. Mockbee also notched an ECAC-qualifying distance of 166-2 in the hammer throw for a career best and the fifth-best distance in Bucknell history, placing third. Mockbee went on to place sixth in her final event of the weekend, the shot put, with a distance of 41-11 ½.

Bucknell finished the 2008 Patriot League Outdoor Championships on Saturday, May 3, taking second (146 points), just two points behind first-place Army (148 points). The Bison won one more individual event, in addition to Mockbee's discus title, at the league championship meet. Senior Beverly Rogers (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) took first in the javelin throw with an NCAA East Regional standard of 146-9.

The Bison are now set to send qualifiers to the ECAC Championships in Princeton, N.J., May 16-18.
