No. 19 Bucknell Women's Water Polo Completes Maryland Invitational Perfect with 10-4 Victory Over Iona

Feb. 24, 2008

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Meagan Gins (Albuquerque, N.M./Valley), Whitney Allen (Hillsborough, Calif./Menlo) and Aubrey Rowe (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) each scored two goals to help the No. 19 Bucknell women's water polo team to a 10-4 victory over Iona Sunday morning at the Maryland Invitational. The Bison, who improved to 10-2 overall, complete the weekend with a perfect 3-0 mark.

Bucknell, which has won four games in a row, outscored the Gaels 6-2 in the second half en route to the six-goal victory. The Bison are now 3-4 all-time against Iona, but have won each of the last three meetings.

With her two goals, Rowe moved into sole possession of ninth place on the Bison career list with 107. On Saturday she had recorded her 100th career goal. Her 20 goals this season place her fourth on the team. Rowe also contributed a team-high three steals and dished out a team high-tying two assists opposite Iona.

Alison Carter (Costa Mesa, Calif./Newport Harbor) and Rachel McGillis (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) split time in goal for Bucknell as they limited Iona to the fewest points by an opponent this year. McGillis made her second start of the weekend and recorded three saves in the first half. She held the Gaels without a goal in the second quarter. Carter stopped eight shots in the second half and equaled Rowe for the team lead with a pair of assists.

The Bison's 10-2 start to the season matches the 2006 squad for the second-best in program history. Only the 2005 team that opened the campaign 11-1 had a better record through 12 games.

Bucknell will make its first home appearance of the season next weekend, March 1-2, when it hosts the ECAC Championship at Kinney Natatorium. The seedings for the eight-team field are expected to be announced on Monday.
