Bucknell Women's Water Polo Completes Claremont Convergence Perfect with 10-7 Win Over Redlands

March 16, 2008

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The No. 20 Bucknell women's water polo team needed to come from behind to do it, but the Bison completed the Claremont Convergence with a perfect 4-0 record thanks to a 10-7 victory over Redlands on Sunday. Bucknell outscored the Bulldogs 6-2 in the second half, including 3-0 in the third quarter.

The Bison, who at 18-4 this season are five wins shy of the program record, were led by three goals apiece from Aubrey Rowe (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Kandis Canonica (Burlingame, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep). Canonica also dished out a pair of assists to bring her season total to 45, one shy of second place on Bucknell's single-season list. No one else on this year's team has more than 28 assists.

In addition to her three goals, Rowe, who totaled nine goals and six assists at the two-day Claremont Convergence, tallied a career-high five steals.

Rachel McGillis (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) played the entire game in goal and stopped seven shots. She is just 11 shy of 100 in her career.

The Bison offense clicked in its six-on-five opportunities, going 6-for-8.

Bucknell, which completed its Spring Break trip to California with a solid 5-2 record, will be idle until it begins CWPA Southern Division league play the weekend of March 28-30. The Bison will host league foes Princeton, George Washington and Maryland at Kinney Natatorium that weekend.
