Rozas Named CWPA Southern Division Player of the Week

Feb. 19, 2008

LEWISBURG, Pa. - For the second consecutive week, Bucknell's Valentina Rozas (Pico Rivera, Calif./El Rancho) was named the CWPA Southern Division Player of the Week on Tuesday. The sophomore member of the Bison women's water polo team totaled 11 goals, three assists and drew 11 ejections in four games over the weekend at the Princeton Invitational as she helped Bucknell to a pair of wins, including one over No. 18 Indiana.

Rozas' best game of the weekend was against the Hoosiers. She scored a career-high six goals, including the game-winner with two seconds left in regulation as the Bison defeated a ranked opponent for the first time since 2006. Rozas also added one assist in the contest to give her a career-high seven points, eclipsing her previous high by two.

The team's leading scorer with 23 goals, Rozas posted three multiple-goal games over the weekend, scoring twice against both No. 15 Michigan and Siena. Rozas also drew five ejections opposite the Wolverines and registered at least two in each game.

Rozas went over the 100-point plateau for her career over the weekend. She now has 72 goals, 29 assists and 101 points in her 41 career games. The Pico Rivera, Calif., native is tied for the team lead this year with 31 points, paces the team in ejections drawn with 18 and is second with 16 steals.

Bucknell posted a 2-2 record over the weekend while facing three ranked opponents. It is off to a 7-2 start, its best since 2006.

The Bison will return to action this weekend at the Maryland Invitational. They will face Villanova and Wagner on Saturday and Iona on Sunday.
