Swimming Heads To Xavier On Saturday

As the 2007-08 regular season winds down, the Butler swimming team hits the road on Saturday (Feb. 2) when the Bulldogs take on Xavier beginning at 1:00 p.m. in Cincinnati.

The Bulldogs will be seeing their first action in nearly two weeks after falling short to Green Bay, 103-74, on Jan. 19.

Senior Elizabeth Shafer continues to be Butler's top freestyle swimmer this season, boasting top marks in the 50 (26.65), 100 (56.82), 200 (2:02.70), 500 (5:24.04) and 1,650 (18:58.38) and holds a top time in the 100 fly (1:07.19).

Junior Sarah Lynne Gates has paced the Bulldogs in the backstroke events (100 - 1:03.87, 200 - 2:16.28) and in the individual medley (200 - 2:17.38, 400 - 4:57.68), while freshman Leigh Weston has put together an impressive rookie campaign with all-time top-10 marks in the 100 breast (1:10.68) and 200 breast (2:31.12).

Following the meet against the Musketeers, the Bulldogs close out the regular seaseon when they sreturn to Indianapolis to take on host IUPUI on Wednesday, Feb. 6 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the IUPUI Natatorium. The Horizon League Championship gets underway on Feb. 20 in Cleveland.
