Butler Distance Athletes Shine At Meyo Invitational

Feb. 10, 2008

Junior Andy Baker posted a runner-up finish in the men's 5,000 meter run and senior Genni Gardner turned in a lifetime best effort in the women's 3,000 meter run to highlight a strong Butler performance at the Meyo Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 8-9. Butler entered seven athletes in the national level meet and all ran personal best times!

Baker finished with a lifetime best time of 14:12.73, the third-fastest indoor 5,000 meter time in Butler history. He was in contention right to the wire, finishing less than two seconds behind multiple All-American Matt Witherow of Wisconsin. Baker's time was just shy of the NCAA provisional national qualifying time of 14:10.

Gardner posted a lifetime best time of 9:36.23 and finished seventh in the women's 3,000 meter run. Her time was less than four seconds off the national qualifying standard of 9:34.

Junior Tommy Davies recorded a lifetime best of 14:38.42 in the 5,000 meter run, while placing third in the second section. He wound up 14th overall.

Junior Rachel Gibbs and sophomore Marbeth Shiell each turned in indoor personal bests in the 5,000 meter run. Gibbs placed third in the second section and 17th overall with a time of 17:44. Shiell finished 27th with a time of 18:03.18.

Senior Claire Holme, who missed all of the indoor and outdoor season a year ago, made her indoor debut in the women's 3,000 meter run, and she placed 14th with an indoor personal best of 9:53.04. And senior Isabelle Stoate ran a lifetime best of 5:00.86 in the women's mile, while placing 23rd.
