Butler Closes Indoor Season At Alex Wilson Invitational

March 10, 2008

Lifetime best performances by a trio of distance runners highlighted the performance of the Butler track and field team at the Alex Wilson Invitational, hosted by the University of Notre Dame on Friday and Saturday (March 7-8). The meet was the final competition of the indoor season for the Bulldogs.

Seniors Genni Gardner and Claire Holme and junior Tommy Davies all turned in personal best efforts at the non-scoring meet. Gardner narrowly missed the NCAA qualifying standard with a lifetime best time of 9:35.73 in the women's 3,000 meter run. She posted Butler's best individual finish by placing runner-up in the event.

Holme placed fifth in her section of the women's mile run with a lifetime best effort of 4:55.35. Teammate Isabelle Stoate narrowly missed her lifetime best in the same race with a time of 5:00.81, good for eighth place in section one.

Junior Rachel Gibbs ran a season best of 10:07.61 in the women's 3,000 meter run while finishing fourth.

Davies turned in perhaps the Bulldogs' most impressive performance, shaving more than 17 seconds off his previous best effort in the men's 5,000 meter run. He wound up placing eighth in the race in 14:21.19. Junior Andy Baker placed 11th in the same race in 14:28.92, the second-fastest 5,000 meter race of his career.
