Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois tagged Butler pitching for six runs in the first four innings before holding on for an 8-1 decision on Sunday (March 9) afternoon at Abe Martin Field.

The Salukis plated a pair of runs in the second and three more in the third to build up a quick 5-0 advantage in a game that was added to the Bulldogs' schedule just over 24 hours prior to its start time.

Butler earned its lone run of the contest in the fifth after Colin Ziegel singled and came around on an RBI double by Kyle McLaughlin.

Southpaw Matt Sokolowski, meanwhile, worked a strong 4.1 innings of relief, allowing just three hits and no earned runs while striking out four and walking none.

Butler returns to action on Monday (March 10) when it takes on Southern Illinois beginning at 2:00 p.m. ET.
