Tennessee Tech Edges Bulldogs, 3-2

March 14, 2008

Box Score

Cookeville, Tenn. - A strong start by left-hander Matt Sokolowski would not be enough for the Bulldogs, as the bats continued to struggle in a 3-2 defeat at the hands of host Tennessee Tech on Friday (March 14) evening.

With the exception of a tough second inning, Sokolowski pitched brilliantly against the Golden Eagles, striking out seven and walking none in seven frames.

After going three-up and three-down in the first, TTU struck for two runs on five-straight hits, but Sokolowski managed to limit the damage by inducing an inning-ending double play.

Butler cut the lead in half in the top of the third, as Jason Jamerson led off with a single to left, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brian Bajer and came around on a double down the left field line by Nate Hart.

A single by Colin Ziegel put the tying run on third with one out, but Tennessee Tech escaped further damage with a strike-out and fielder's choice.

TTU got the run back in the bottom of the frame on a two-out triple followed by an RBI single up the middle to push the lead back to two at 3-1, but the Bulldogs quickly responded in the fourth after Ryan Neat doubled before coming home on a throw down to second to cut down Joe Pauley stealing.

The Bulldogs would get no closer, however, as TTU limited them to a two-out single, a hit batsman and a pair of walks in the final four innings.

Butler returns to action against Tennessee Tech on Saturday (March 15) beginning at 3:00 p.m.
