Early Offense Drives Indiana Past Bulldogs, 13-5

May 13, 2008

Box Score

Bloomington, Ind. - Senior Nate Hart belted the second home run of his career, but the host Hoosiers would out-pace the Bulldogs on the offensive end in rolling to a 13-5 decision on Tuesday (Mary 13) afternoon.

Butler took any early lead in the first inning, as Hart led off with a double to center before moving to third on a sacrifice bunt by Colin Ziegel. After Joe Pauley drew a five-pitch walk to put runners on first and third, Hart came across for the first run of the game when Pauley drew the catcher's throw down in an attempted steal of second.

The Hoosiers answered back in the bottom of the frame on an RBI triple to right center by Josh Phegley. IU added three more runs, one earned, in the second to build up a 4-1 advantage before dropping a seven-spot in the third to go ahead by 10.

The Bulldogs threatened to come back in the game in the fourth, as Grant Fillipitch, Jason Jamerson and Ryan Neat led off the frame with three-straight singles to load the bases. Butler would only get two runs out of the inning, however, coming on an ensuing double-play and a wild pitch.

Butler added single runs in the seventh and ninth, as Hart connected on a 3-1 pitch for his second career home run before ripping an RBI double two innings later, but the effort would be too little too late.

Joe Ochs saw his streak of consecutive innings without an earned run end at 27, as the Hoosier tagged the junior southpaw for nine runs in dealing him his first defeat of the year.

Hart finished the day with a 3-for-5 effort at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored. Fillipitch added a pair of hits and a run.
