Butler Climbs In National Polls

Butler, coming off back-to-back wins at home, has climbed to No. 12 in both the Associated Press and the ESPN/USA Today national men's basketball polls, released on Monday (Jan. 28). The Bulldogs (19-2) climbed three spots in the A. P. poll and two spots in the ESPN/USA Today poll. Memphis (19-0) remained No. 1 in both men's basketball polls, while Kansas (20-0) continued to hold down the No. 2 position. Indiana (17-2), coming off a home loss to Connecticut, slipped to No. 11, one position ahead of the Bulldogs. Butler's No. 12 position matches the team's highest ranking this season. Butler defeated Loyola, 63-50, and UIC, 73-57, in a pair of games at Hinkle Fieldhouse last week. Freshman Matt Howard posted his third career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds against Loyola, before notching a game-high 20 points against UIC. Guard Mike Green also scored in double-figures in both games, finishing with 13 points against Loyola and 15 against UIC, while guard A. J. Graves tallied 16 against UIC. The two wins boosted Butler to 8-0 at home this season and extended the Bulldogs' current winning streak to three in a row. Butler is idle this week, before returning to action at Valparaiso on Tuesday, Feb. 5. That game will be nationally-televised on ESPN2.
