Butler To Meet No. 1 Florida In St. Louis

March 20, 2007

Butler is playing in the "Sweet 16" for the second time in five years and for the third time overall. The Bulldogs (29-6), seeded fifth in the Midwest Region, will square off against No. 1 seed Florida (31-5) at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, Mo., on Friday, March 23. The game is slated for 7:10 p.m. (ET) and will be televised nationally on CBS.

Butler earned its third trip to the Sweet 16 with victories over Old Dominion, 57-46, and Maryland, 62-59, in the first and second rounds at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, N.Y. Defending national champ Florida advanced to St. Louis with wins over Jackson State, 112-69, and Purdue, 74-67.

The other Sweet 16 game at the Edward Jones Dome will send No. 3 seed Oregon (28-7) against No. 7 seed UNLV (30-6). The Midwest Regional finals are slated for Sunday, March 25.

Butler reached the "Sweet 16" in its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 1962 and then again in 2003.
