Butler Edges Green Bay, 4-3

March 1, 2008

Results

Indianapolis, Ind. - The Butler men's tennis team rallied from three defeats in doubles play for wins in four of the six singles matches to claim a hard-fought, 4-3, victory over Green Bay on Saturday (March 1) afternoon. A 7-6 (2), 6-3 win at No. 5 by Brandon Bayliss sealed the victory for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs found themselves in an early hole, as the Phoenix notched wins in all three doubles bouts for the first point of the match.

Butler rallied back, however, scoring wins in three of the first four singles matches played. Eric Breitenbach worked a quick 6-1, 6-3 decision at No. 2 before Bryce Warren added a win at No. 4. Chris Herron added a victory at No. 3 to help give the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead in the match.

After Green Bay scored a win at No. 6 to bring the bout back to even at 3-3, Bayliss battled for the winning point at No. 5.

The win gives the Bulldogs its third in a row and gives them a 2-0 mark in Horizon League play.

Butler will have nearly three weeks before its next competition, when it hosts both IPFW and IUPUI on March 21.
