Bulldogs Defeat Michigan State, 2-1, At Georgia Classic

March 2, 2008

Box Score

Alex Boros slammed her first home run of the season and Kristen Malinkey turned in a stellar pitching performance to lead Butler to a 2-1 victory over Michigan State at the Georgia Softball Classic on Sunday, March 2. The Bulldogs finished the three-day tournament with a 2-3 record.

The Bulldogs scored all of their runs in the first inning. Lindsay Schluge opened the game with a double to left field and two outs later scored on a blast by Boros over the left-center field wall. It was Butler's second round-tripper in the tournament.

Butler managed just three more hits off of Michigan State starter Lesley Noel, but the opening burst was enough for Malinkey. The second-year righthander allowed just one run on eight hits while going the distance against the Spartans. She struck out four batters and walked just one.

Michigan State tallied its lone run inn the bottom of the fourth inning on a single by Caitlin Mahoney and a run-scoring double by Gina Mondo. Malinkey, who picked up her first win of the young season, stopped Michigan State scoring threats in both the fifth and sixth innings.

Butler will take a week off before heading to Florida over spring break to compete in the Rebel Games.
