IUPUI Takes Two From Butler

April 7, 2008

Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score

Indianapolis, Ind. - A six-run first inning by host IUPUI would be too much for the Bulldogs to overcome, as the Jaguars claimed a 6-1 decision in the first game of a double-header on Monday (April 7) afternoon. Butler would get an early 1-0 lead in the night-cap, but IUPUI responded with three unanswered runs in claiming a 3-1 victory.

The Jaguars collected six hits in the first inning, including a grand slam by Cayleigh Harvey, to plate all six of their runs in the game.

A two-out home run by Alex Boros in the fifth inning, her team-leading fourth of the year, would be the only scoring in the contest for the Bulldogs. Butler had opportunities to plate more, putting runners on first and third with one out in the fourth, but IUPUI managed to work out of the jam.

Amy Hyerczyk and Jen Arriaga led the team with two hits a piece. Nikki Naffziger worked the final 5.1 innings in relief, holding IUPUI scoreless on just two hits and no walks while striking out five.

Butler staked itself to a 1-0 first inning lead in the second game of the day. Hyerczyk led off the game with a single to short before moving to second on a sacrifice bunt. A ground-out to third by Boros sent her to third before a wild pitch allowed her to score the first run of the game.

The Jaguars would answer with a run in the second on an RBI double before putting up two in the fifth on a sac fly and an RBI single.

Erin Jackson led the Bulldogs with two hits in the game.

Butler returns to action on Thursday (April 10) when it hosts Eastern Illinois in a double-header beginning at 2:00 p.m.
