Butler's Amy Hyerczyk Named League Player of the Week

March 5, 2008

Senior Amy Hyerczyk, who helped lead Butler to a pair of wins at the Georgia Softball Classic, has been named Horizon League Softball Player of the Week (March 4). Andrea Zappia of Valparaiso was tabbed as the league's Pitcher of the Week.

Hyerczyk batted .462 in five games at the Georgia tournament. She helped Butler to a 9-5 victory over Longwood with a towering three-run home run in the eighth inning of the extra inning contest. She also had three of Butler's eight hits in two games against No. 17 Georgia. The Butler first baseman led the Bulldogs in total bases in the tournament, and she had a team-high 23 putouts. She also posted a .611 on-base percentage.

Butler posted victories over Longwood and Michigan State in the four-team tournament. It was the first competition of the season for the Bulldogs.

Zappia pitched a shutout against Sacred Heart and picked up a victory in relief over Holy Cross to lead Valparaiso last week.
