Bulldogs Fall Short To Illinois State, 5-2

Feb. 8, 2008

Final Stats

Indianapolis, Ind. - Sophomore Becky Jenkins and senior Tiffany McLoughlin tallied victories in singles competition, but the Butler women's tennis team came up just short of visiting Illinois State in the final team scoring, 5-2, on Friday (Feb. 8) evening.

Jenkins staked herself to an early lead in No. 4 singles thanks to a strong 6-2 win in the opening set. Carolyne Parent responded in the second with a 6-4 decision to force a deciding third set, where Jenkins responded with another solid 6-2 showing.

McLoughlin, meanwhile, earned a hard-fought victory in the opening set at No. 6 singles, taking a 7-6 (7) victory over Katie O'Riley before claiming the straight-set win with a 6-2 in the second.

Sophomore Molly Casperson put up a spirited showing at No. 2 singles, pushing Julia Zubkova to the limit in the second set before falling 7-6 (6). Freshman Natali Jaimes, meanwhile, rebounded from an opening frame defeat at No. 3 to score a 7-6 (0) win in the second set before falling short in the third.

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday (Feb. 13) when they open a three-match road swing at Xavier beginning at 1:00 p.m.
