Bulldogs Fall Short Of Xavier, 5-2
Feb. 13, 2008
Cincinnati, Ohio - Tiffany McLoughlin notched her second-straight singles win and Natali Jaimes tallied her second of the spring, but host Xavier scored the team victory with a 5-2 decision over the Bulldogs on Wednesday (Feb. 13). McLoughlin, who earned her first win of the spring against Illinois State on Saturday (Feb. 9), held on for a three-set decision at No. 6 singles over Jeanette Feider, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (5). Jaimes, meanwhile, scored a straight-set win over Aylin Seyalioglu, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. The Bulldogs put up a valiant effort in doubles competition and fell just short of claiming the first point of the match. Molly Casperson and Becky Jenkins topped Tifanie Treece and Christie Pleiman at No. 2 doubles, 8-5, while Michelle Hawes and McLoughlin put up a strong fight at No. 3 before falling, 9-7, to Annie Diedalis and Jill Ducro. Butler also received a gutsy showing at No. 1 singles by Casperson, who battled Kara Courtney through three sets. The two players tangled to a deadlock in the opening set before Courtney got the upper hand in the tie-breaker for a 7-6 (4) decision. Casperson rallied in the second set with a convincing 6-2 win, but she would fall just short of the match victory in a 6-4 third set defeat. The Bulldogs return to action on Friday (Feb. 15) when they open Horizon League competition at Green Bay beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET. Singles
