Casperson, Herron Sweep Tennis Player Of The Week Honors

April 1, 2008

Indianapolis, Ind. - After scoring key victories in helping the Butler women's and men's tennis teams continue their winning ways this spring, sophomore Molly Casperson and freshman Chris Herron were each named the Horizon League's Tennis Players of the Week. The league office made the announcement on Tuesday (April 1).

In the women's team's only action of the week, Casperson helped the Bulldogs to a 6-1 victory over host Wright State, scoring a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Jessica Lee at the top singles spot. She also teamed with Becky Jenkins at No. 2 doubles for a convincing 8-1 victory over Lee and Christa Ames.

Herron, meanwhile, finished with three singles wins and four doubles victories in leading the men's squad to three match victories last week. He posted a 6-1, 7-5 singles win and an 8-5 doubles victory in helping Butler defeat Dayton before notching a 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) No. 3 singles win and an 8-4 doubles win against Toledo. His 8-4 doubles win and 6-1, 6-2 singles victory at league foe Wright State helped the Bulldogs to a 5-2 win over the Raiders, while his 8-3 doubles win against Indiana State helped the team secure the crucial doubles point in a 4-3 decision.

Casperson and Herron are the fifth and sixth Butler players to be recognized this spring. Sophomore Ben Raynauld (Feb. 27 and March 25), senior Eric Breitenbach (Feb. 13), Natalie Jaimes (Feb. 20) and Brandon Bayliss (March 4) have also been honored.

The Butler women's team returns to action on Friday (April 4) when they take on Valparaiso, while the men's squad hosts Youngstown State on Saturday (April 5).
