IRVING, Texas - Earning their second Conference USA Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week award is Memphis' Aaron Whetstone and Genoah Collins of UAB. Whetstone won the long jump (7.20m) and placed second in the triple jump (14.52) at the McDonald's Invitational. Collins became the 13th C-USA female track athlete to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships after she clocked a time of 2:08.34 in the 800-meter dash at the Meyo Invitational last weekend. Her time ranks 11th-best in the nation. C-USA INDOOR TRACK & FIELD NOTEBOOK & TOP PERFORMANCES CONFERENCE-USA INDOOR TRACK & FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK The freshman also placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 14.52 meters (47-07.75). He scored a total of 18 points in the Tigers second-place victory.
FEMALE Collins was also a member of the distance medley relay team that broke the school record by six seconds with a time of 11.37.50, good for seventh-place. She also helped the 4x400-meter relay team finish fifth with a time of 3:44.55, the second fastest time in school history. 2008 ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
