Rice's Dillard Named Midseason All-American
Oct. 15, 2008
Rice senior wide receiver Jarett Dillard, who leads the nation in receiving touchdowns and receiving yards per game, has been named to CBS Sports.com's Midseason All-American team. The team was announced on its web site on Wednesday. Dillard joins Michael Crabtree of Texas Tech as the two wide receivers on the squad. Dillard has broken three NCAA career records during his senior season, setting a new standard for career touchdown receptions (51), career games with a touchdown reception (32) and teaming with quarterback Chase Clement to set the mark for career touchdown passes by the same passer and receiver (42). At the midpoint of the 2008 season, he has caught 46 passes for 674 yards and 11 touchdowns. He is three touchdown catches ahead of his pace through six games in 2006, when he finished with a total of 21 and was named a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award as the nation's top receiver. The senior from San Antonio, Texas has a streak of four consecutive games with at least 100 yards in receiving (longest of his career) and has caught at least one touchdown in each of his last 10 games. He has caught at least two passes in each game of his career (42 games), the longest current streak in the country. Dillard is the NCAA active leader in receptions (251) and receiving yards (3,502) in addition to his career record for touchdown receptions.
