TEXARKANA, Ark. - With a four-under par performance from both Memphis seniors Robbie Greenwell and Ian Rochester, the Tigers took an early lead after the opening round of the 2008 C-USA Men's Golf Championship. A total of 55 golfers played 18 holes in Sunday's opening round at the par 72, 6,935-yard Texarkana Country Club with temperatures in the high-70's and a steady breeze.

Greenwell and Rochester are in a six-way tie for first place in the individual standings after 18. The Tiger duo also had the support of teammates Brad Benjamin and Brandon Bunn, who both tied for seventh place with an impressive two-under 70 on the day.

Houston ended the day six-under for second place. Junior Brady Shivers was the Cougars top finisher with a 68, while Jordan Irwin, who tied for runner-up honors at the 2007 C-USA Championship, was two-under to tie for seventh today. UAB follows close behind, just one stroke off the Cougars, in third place. The Blazers also had a pair of 68 performances from juniors Brad Smith and Zach Sucher.

Southern Miss sophomore Paul Apyan is also tied in the top slot in the individual standings and led the Golden Eagles to a two-under day for fourth place. Apyan made a nice jump with an eagle on No. 17, a par 4 hole. UCF, who teed off first with Marshall this morning, is in fifth place with a 287. The No. 19 Knights had three players place in the Top 20, with freshman Kyle Cobb and junior Greg Forest breaking par at one-under (tied for 11th).

East Carolina took advantage of a strong start on the front nine and finished sixth on the day with a 289. Defending champion Tulsa is seventh and was paced by freshman Ryan Brooks with a 70. Rice and SMU will tee off with Tulsa tomorrow, while UTEP and Marshall rounded out the 11-team field, respectively, and the Miners and Thundering Herd will be paired together for round two to start things off at 8 a.m. on Monday.

Tuesday's final round tees off at 7:40 a.m., with teams going off both the front and back nine. The winner of the C-USA Championship receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals. Live scoring is available on www.conferenceusa.com.
