IRVING, Texas - UAB's Dan Cornei is the Conference USA Men's Tennis Player of the Week after winning all three singles matches and two of three doubles matches last week at the C-USA Shootout. His efforts helped the Blazers to three wins at the event, the first time the team has ever achieved that feat. Kseniia Tokarieva of SMU is the women's tennis Player of the Week after going undefeated in both singles and doubles against league foe Houston and Texas A&M Corpus Christi. The junior won both of her singels matches in straight sets.

Cornei won all three of his singles matches at the No. 3 position to help UAB sweep three C-USA opponents over the weekend at Hattiesburg, Miss. The freshman from Canada who didn't see his first collegiate action until earlier this month, also won two of three doubles matches against league foes East Carolina, Southern Miss and UCF. Cornei improved his spring dual match record in singles to 5-0, while UAB improved its dual match record to 4-1 overall. Cornei's efforts also helped UAB head coach Derek Tarr pick up his 300th career victory against Southern Miss on Sunday. The Blazers' three wins at the C-USA Shootout represented the first time that the team have been able to achieve that feat. The weekly honor is the first of Cornei's career.
WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK (2/26)
KSENIIA TOKARIEVA - SMU

Tokarieva went undefeated last weekend in both singles and doubles play. Against C-USA rival Houston, Tokarieva beat Leila Salek at No. 2 in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Sunday, Tokarieva dispatched Erika Iriarte of Texas A&M Corpus Christi, blanking her, 6-0, 6-0. As part of the 38th-ranked doubles pair in the country, Tokarieva paired with teammate Nicole Briceno to defeat Wasson/Kacprzyk of Houston, 8-3, and Iriarte/Dyckman of Texas A&M Corpus Christi, 8-2. The win at No. 2 doubles over TAMUCC clinched the doubles point for SMU. Tokarieva is 8-2 in singles and 8-1 in doubles in her first season with the Mustangs. This is the first C-USA weekly honor for the former All-SEC performer.
