Cal Football Assistant Coaches Signing Day Quotes

Cal Completes 2013 Football Coaching Staff

Garret Chachere (defensive ends) and Zach Yenser (offensive line) join the Golden Bears.

Zach Yenser is in his first campaign as the offensive line coach at Cal in 2013. Last season, Yenser was the assistant offensive line coach at Louisiana Tech for a squad that posted a 9-3 record and led the nation in both scoring offense (51.50 ppg) and total offense (577.92 ypg), while ranking third in passing offense (350.75), seventh in fewest sacks allowed (0.83 spg) and 17th in rushing offense (227.17 ypg).

He spent his first two seasons at Louisiana Tech from 2010-11 working with the offensive line as a graduate assistant after having previously been an offensive line consultant under Cal offensive coordinator Tony Franklin at Auburn in 2008 and Middle Tennessee State in 2009. Yenser was also a consultant at Texas Tech prior to the 2012 campaign.

Offensive linemen earned four first-team All-WAC honors during Yenser's three seasons with the Bulldogs, with Stephen Warner earning the honor in both 2011 and 2012, Kris Cavitt in 2011 and Jordan Mills in 2012. Oscar Johnson and Kevin Sia added second-team all-conference honors in 2012.

Prior to arriving at Louisiana Tech, Yenser spent the 2009 season as an assistant coach at Colquitt County High School, where he helped guide the Packers to an 11-3 record and an appearance in the Georgia 5-A state semifinals.

He was also an offensive line coach at Henderson State in 2008, where his line allowed only 13 sacks in 430 attempts and the offense racked up 13 school records and one All-Gulf South Conference selection.

Yenser began his collegiate coaching career at his alma mater, Troy, where he was the offensive graduate assistant for the 2007 season, working specifically with the offensive line and special teams and helping the Trojans to a share of the Sun Belt Conference title and post an 8-4 overall record. The Trojans led the Sun Belt in scoring offense (34.00 ppg) and total offense (452.83 ypg), with a national ranking of 16th in the latter.

Yenser was a four-year starter at Troy and at one point appeared in 42 consecutive games from 2003-06 before graduating from the school with a bachelor's degree in communication and fine arts in 2007. He helped the Trojans win the Sun Belt title and the New Orleans Bowl as a 2006 senior when he was a team captain and all-conference selection.

Yenser received his master's degree in science with a concentration in sports performance from Louisiana Tech in 2012.

Yenser married to the former Beth Graham in 2009 and the couple has one son, Graham, born in 2012.
