Recap

Head coach Barry Weiner
On the Cal's performance: "It's disappointing. I had a hard time watching Tim [McNeill] struggle because I know how sore his back is. I think they were prepared and deserved to do a better job. I feel disappointed for the team. Overall, I'm disappointed. They work hard. They're a great group. The team did everything I asked of them all year long."

On Kyson Bunthuwong and Tim McNeill finishing the all-around:
"Kyson had a really rough meet. He scored an 11.750 on pommel horse, and he's capable of scoring closer to 15. I felt that if Tim and Kyson were both in the top five overall, we would have been where we supposed to be. I also thought that if they finished in the top three, we really would have had a good meet. As it turns out, Tim's falling hard on three events brought him just one point behind [Stanford's] David Sender, who is a world championship team member. I just wish Tim was a little more healthy. I don't know why Kyson was so rough but he's got another year."

Senior Tim McNeill
On the team's fifth place finish:
"We didn't perform as well as we had hoped for or to what our potential was. We never gave up. We kept fighting, and I'm really proud of that. It's hard. We trained as hard as we could, we did everything we could. What happened, happened."

On competing in the all-around competition:
"I really wanted to do all-around in my last NCAA meet. I was really happy I could get through that. My back might be worse for doing that. But I'm happy I got to do that."

On advancing to the event finals Saturday:
"I haven't really thought that far ahead yet. I'm going to take it one event at a time. "

Junior Kyson Bunthuwong:
On the team's attitude:
"Tonight was definitely a struggle. But I don't think any one of us gave up. That's what I'm so proud of. Coming away from tonight's meet, it's very disappointing to come in fifth. We worked hard and we know that. Not one of the guys gave up at any point in the meet, and I think that's what stands out the most about tonight."
