Golden Bears Send Top Doubles Team to Championship Semifinal

Geoff Chizever and Pedro Zerbini will face top-seeded Robert Farah and Kaes Van't Hof of USC

OJAI, Calif. - The California men's tennis team continued play at the 2008 Pacific-10 Conference Tennis Championships today at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club in Ojai, Calif. Golden Bear freshman Bozhidar Katsarov put up his 32nd singles win of the year with a 3-6, 7-6, 7-6 win over USC's Andrew Piotrowski in the Men's Singles Invitational bracket and will face UCLA's Josh Miller in Saturday's semifinal at 9:30 a.m.

Freshman Pedro Zerbini had his 12-match singles winning streak snapped at the hands of top-seeded Robert Farah in a three-setter, falling 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.

In doubles play, the fourth-seeded duo of junior Geoff Chizever and Zerbini advanced to Saturday's semifinal match with two wins today. They will face the top-seeded doubles team of Robert Farah and Kaes Van't Hof of USC after getting wins against Washington's Fischer and Nedunchezhiyan and Oregon's Embry and Mortera. Third-seeded freshman duo of Katsarov and Jonathan Dahan will play in the Invitational Doubles semifinal against Oregon's Gallardo and Wiechert after getting a pair of wins of their own today.
