Walk-ons are Key to the Golden Bears' Success

BERKELEY - Prospective athletes interested in learning about becoming a member of California women's crew should contact Golden Bears assistant coach Sara Nevin at (510) 643-9100 or via email at sjnevin@berkeley.edu.

One-third of the Cal team is composed of athletes who had not rowed before college, and they play a key role in the success of the team. That group includes senior Onna Poeter, a current member of the varsity eight who never rowed in high school.

Cal will hold a meeting this summer about walking on to women's crew, but interested athletes should contact Nevin now for more information. The Bears are looking for tall athletes (5-9 and taller) as well as smaller athletes (under 115 lbs).
