BERKELEY - The California field hockey team handed out team awards at its March 1 banquet honoring the 2007 Golden Bears, with senior forward Jennifer Crane taking home the Player of the Year and Offensive MVP accolades. The Los Gatos, Calif., product led Cal in scoring (28 points) and goalscoring (12) during the 2007 season. She also contributed four assists and scored three game-winning goals for the 12-6 Bears.
Cal junior defender Rachel Moffitt earned the Defensive MVP honor. The San Diego native, who like Crane started all 18 games for the Bears last fall, was arguably Cal's top one-on-one defender and one of its top passers; she collected six assists.
Sophomore forward Caitlyn Byrne, from Apple Valley, Calif., claimed the Bears' 12th Man award. She came off the bench 11 times and scored nine points (4 goals, 1 assist) in 14 total games.
Bears junior defender Carolina Bistue collected the All-Cal award for excellence in academics, athletics and leadership. Originally from Mendoza, Argentina, Bistue scored 12 points and paced Cal with eight assists in 18 starts in 2007.
