Cal Blanks San Francisco, 1-0, in Spring Action

April 11, 2008

DANVILLE, Calif. - California improved to 3-0 in spring action with a 1-0 victory over San Francisco April 10 at the Mustang Soccer Complex in Danville, Calif., in front of approximately 500 fans.

"This was a very hard-fought game," said Cal head coach Neil McGuire. "San Francisco is well coached, nicely organized, disciplined in their play and play with great passion. This made it tough for us. We moved the ball much better in the second half, allowing us to get the goal. I am pleased for the players as they gave great effort."

Junior midfielder/forward Nikki Schrey scored the only goal of the game midway through the second half. The score was tied at halftime after a physical opening 45 minutes.

Redshirt sophomore Rosie Aguilera received the starting nod in goal for the Bears. She held the Dons scoreless for 45 minutes, and sophomore Gina Pellegrini wrapped up the shutout for the Bears with a scoreless second half in goal.

Cal next will take part in the Kicks For Cancer April 19 at Stanford.
