Cal Edges Oregon, Ties Stanford in Kicks Against Breast Cancer Tournament

April 20, 2008

STANFORD, Calif. - California defeated Oregon, 1-0, and tied Stanford, 0-0, on Saturday in the Stanford Kicks Against Breast Cancer Tournament at Cagan Stadium. The tournament featured six teams, including the two Bay Area rivals, the U.S. under-15 national team, Oregon, Washington and San Francisco.

"Stanford ran a first-class event and should be credited for supporting such a worthwhile cause," Cal head coach Neil McGuire said.

The games were 50-minutes long with two 25-minute halves each.

Cal's Gina Pellegrini played the whole way in goal against the host Cardinal. Both teams created one or two good scoring chances in an even match.

Against Oregon, Bears sophomore forward Lisa Kevorkian scored the lone goal midway through the first half with a low shot from 20 yards out. Sophomore goalkeeper Rosie Aguilera played the whole way and shut out the Ducks.

Cal winds up spring ball when its hosts a 7-v-7 tournament at Memorial Stadium that includes Stanford, Saint Mary's, Pacific, Chico State, Air Force, UC Davis, San Jose State and the California Storm club team. Games start at 9:30 a.m. and run through 4 p.m. Admission to the games is free.
