Cal Ends Spring Season as Runner-up at 7v7 Tournament

April 28, 2008

BERKELEY, Calif. - California concluded its spring schedule with a runner-up finish to the Sacramento Storm in the Golden Bears' 7v7 tournament at Memorial Stadium April 27. Each game had two 15-minute halves.

"This was an excellent way to end our spring season," said Cal head coach Neil McGuire. "It was a fun day of soccer with all teams involved playing well. We lost in the final to a more experienced team who essentially controlled the tempo of the game and deservedly won."

The all day round-robin event had five teams in each bracket. Each game had two 15-minute halves. Group one consisted of Cal, Pacific, UC Davis, Chico State and Air Force. Cal and Pacific advanced from group one. In the group stage, Cal beat Air Force, 1-0, UC Davis, 4-2 and Chico State, 4-0. The Bears lost to Pacific, 3-0.

Group two featured Stanford, the Storm from the WPSL, San Jose State, Saint Mary's, Sacramento State. Stanford and the Storm advanced from group two.

In the semifinals, Cal beat Stanford, 3-2, and the Storm easily beat Pacific. The Bears lost in the final to the Storm, 7-5.
