Eagles Sweep Doubleheader From Mars Hill



Hontz picked up the win for C-N in the series opener.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman Eagles allowed just four runs over two games to sweep a doubleheader from Mars Hill on Saturday afternoon at Silver DIamond Baseball Complex.

Game 1

Senior Brett Hontz used 127 pitches to strike out 11 batters while walking none to pick up the complete game 7-3 win over Mars Hill. Langdon Potts, on base five times, led the Eagle attack with a home run, double, single and scored three runs. Corey McGinnis also doubled and had two singles.

Mars Hill's Michael Dobre and Deven Presnell had three hits apiece in the loss.

Game 2

Nick Achberger, Tyler Wynn and Derek Long treated the crowd to back-to-back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning which highlighted an Eagle hitting explosion, ending in a 13-1 victory over the Lions. Achberger would finish with two home runs in the game. Eight different Eagles had at least one hit, with a team total of 16.

Jeremy Yoder picked up the win as four Eagle pitchers held Mars Hill to one run.
