Eagles Grab 30th Win; Beat Limestone 8-2

GAFFNEY, S.C.-- Carson-Newman beat Limestone College 8-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Bob Prevatte Field in a non-conference baseball contest. The Saints slip to 20-23 with the loss as the Eagles climb to 30-12.

Carson-Newman's Corey McGinnis (Morristown, Tenn.) drove in the game's first run on a sacrifice fly in the third. The Eagles' scored their second run in the fourth inning after Langdon Potts (Dandridge, Tenn.) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. McGinnis hit a two-run double to give his team the 4-2 lead in the same inning.

David Christy (Greenville, S.C.) hit a one-out, two RBI single to put Limestone on the board in the fourth.

Wynn had an RBI single for Carson-Newman in the fifth on a base hit to centerfield. McGinnis hit another sacrifice fly in the sixth to give the Eagles a 6-2 advantage. Jason Gray (Rutledge, Tenn.) singled to left field to bring in Derek Long (Jefferson City, Tenn.) in the seventh. Long scored in the ninth for the 8-2 win.

Eagle starter Charlie Hill (Belmont, N.C.) pitched three scoreless innings for the win. Justin Higdon (Ooltewah, Tenn.) came into the game in the fourth. Wes McIntyre (Chattanooga, Tenn.) relieved Higdon in the seventh.

Marques Kyles (Spartanburg, S.C.) pitched the first four innings to take the loss. He gave up five hits and four earned runs. Brett Wease (Shelby, N.C.) saw action in 1 1/3 inning before he was relieved by Jordan Liette (Versailles, Ohio) in the sixth. Josh Troutman (North Augusta, S.C.) came into the game in the eighth. Brock White (Gaffney, S.C.) closed for the Saints.

 

 

The Eagles travel to Wingate, N.C., for a three-game series against Wingate University on April 4-5. Friday's game is slated for 7 p.m., with Saturday's doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
