ROCK HILL, SC - Carson-Newman's Brett Hontz has been named South Atlantic Conference Pitcher of the Week.

Hontz (Newtown Square, Penn.) fired a three-hit, complete-game shutout at Wingate in C-N's 6-0 win completed Sunday.

The senior started the series-opener on Friday night, and came back to finish the win on Sunday because of rain. Hontz allowed only three hits, all singles, while striking out 11 and moved his overall record to 8-1 on the season.

Hontz and the Eagles also won an 8-2 battle with Limestone and captured two critical conference shutouts over Wingate University this weekend 6-0 and 1-0. The third game of the series with the Bulldogs was rained out, bring the Eagles overall record to 32-12, while boast an 11-6 conference mark.

This is the third time this season Hontz has been named SAC Pitcher of the Week.

The Eagles will hit the road this week to play non-conference opponents Maryville College and Belmont Abbey before hosting Lenoir-Rhyne this weekend in their final regular season South Atlantic Conference meeting.
