Eagles Ranked Sixth In Regional Poll

Guyton earned SAC POTW honors after a 17-17, double-double against Catawba.

Feb. 7, 2008

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- The Carson-Newman men's basketball team is ranked sixth in this week's NCAA South Atlantic Regional Poll.

The Eagles (15-4, 6-2 SAC) have won three-straight games, including a 93-68 win Wednesday night at North Greenville University. C-N buried 20 three-pointers in the win, setting the school-record for triples made in a single game.

The ranking caps off an up-and-down week for the Eagles. C-N saw junior Bobby Guyton (Jessup, Ga.) named SAC Player of the Week on Monday for his efforts against Catawba and Newberry. Guyton also went down with an injury at Newberry, and his return is uncertain.

Along with the three wins and school-record, C-N saw Head Coach Dale Clayton return to the sideline for the first time since the loss to L-R. He spent a week away from the team to help with his elderly mother in Florida.

The top eight teams in the final regional poll make the NCAA Tournament in March. C-N last reached the postseason in 2001-2002, losing to national semifinalist Shaw 68-67 in the South Atlantic Regional Final.

Carson-Newman begins a stretch of four of its next five games at home, beginning Saturday night when it hosts Mars Hill. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
