WHITE LAKE, N.C. - The Carson-Newman Eagles took third place in the rain-shortened Carolina Sands Intercollegiate hosted by UNC Pembroke at the Carolina Sands Golf Club on Sunday. The Eagles fired an 18-hole total of 295 to finish nine strokes back of champion Coker. The event was originally scheduled for 36 holes, but heavy rain on Saturday cut the tournament in half. Senior Tyler Lane fired a 71 to finish tied for fifth, shooting a 34 on his final nine holes to finish strong. Sophomore Brad Robinson, who already has a win to his credit this season, shot a 73, finishing tied for 13th. The rest of the Eagles all finished in the top 40 in the 100-man field. Cory Hinchey shot 75 to finish in 24th. John Minor, Jr. turned in a 76 and fellow freshman Blake Howard overcame a slow start to shoot 77. Carson-Newman returns to action for the South Atlantic Conference Tournament at Lake Hickory Country Club in Hickory, North Carolina on Monday. The two-day event is 54 holes.
