MOORESVILLE, N.C. --- Carson-Newman's Brad Robinson (Johnson City, Tenn.) finished in sole possession of second place after firing two-under 70 in the final round of the 2008 NCAA Division II Southeast Region Men's Golf Championship, good enough to take honors as the top individual qualifier and earn a trip to the NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championships in Houston, Texas next week. Robinson turned in rounds of 71-72-70, all three at par or better, to finish with a three-day total of 213 at the Point Lake Golf Club in Mooresville, North Carolina. He finished two strokes behind Georgia College and State's Niclas Johansson, who qualifies with his team. As a team, the Eagles finished sixth with a three-day total of 910, behind champion Georgia College (872), USC Aiken (885), Newberry (891), Clayton State (901), and Lander (902). Senior Tyler Lane (Dayton, Tenn.) wraps up a very solid career with a 23rd place finish, shooting 228 (+12) at the regional. He found himself in contention after a brilliant 70 on Day 2, but followed with an 81 in his final round. Freshman Blake Howard (Johnson City, Tenn.) finished 32nd, firing a three-day total of 233 (+17), with sophomore Cory Hinchey (Abingdon, Va.) three strokes behind him in 36th. Freshman John Minor, Jr. (Dandridge, Tenn.) was the fifth competing, he finished 44th. Robinson's national tournament berth continues his stellar sophomore season. The Johnson City-native won the 2008 Richard Rendleman Invitational at the Country Club of Salisbury (North Carolina) in March.
