JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. - The Carson-Newman Eagles won a pair of tough tennis matches over the weekend, fighting off Catawba 5-3 Saturday and dropping Lincoln Memorial 5-4 on Sunday in Harrogate, Tennessee. Freshman Chris Acker (Knoxville, Tenn.) won in three sets at #5 singles to post the deciding point in the win over the Railsplitters. The Eagles (6-3, 3-3 SAC) won at #3 through #6 singles to rally with a 4-2 edge in singles to capture the win. C-N endured a wet Saturday match with Catawba 5-3. The meeting was actually moved mid-match to the Goodfriend Tennis Complex at the University of Tennessee to be completed. The Eagles captured points at #1 and #2 doubles for a strong start. C-N won at #1 and #2 singles as well, completing a strong showing at the top and four of the five needed points. Guiseppe Schwarz, Adriano Kira, and Jack Harvie each picked up two points in the win. The Eagles return to action on Tuesday at home against King. The match begins at 2 p.m.
