Lady Eagles Hold Off Lenoir-Rhyne, 77-66

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman used a 54-29 rebounding advantage to beat Lenoir-Rhyne 77-66 Saturday night in Jefferson City.

Senior Emily Mason (Rogersville, Ala.) led the lady Eagles with 20 points and nine rebounds. She finished 7-of-10 from the floor.

Carson-Newman (10-8, 4-2 SAC) used a 13-3 run to close the first half to build a 38-23 halftime lead. The Lady Eagles outrebounded L-R 30-10 in the first half.

C-N built its lead out to 20 at 46-26, but Lenoir-Rhyne (10-7, 2-4 SAC) would not quit. The Bears spent much of the second half cutting C-N's lead down to 71-66 on a layup by Jacquelyn Kremer (Sevierville, Tenn.) with 35 seconds to play. C-N would use free throws to put the game away.

LaCourtney Rann (Charlotte, N.C.) had 19 points to lead L-R. Kremer added 12, all in the second half.

Shari Buford (Hampton, Ga.) had 13 points for C-N. Ashley Tipton (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Tykira McDaniel (Griffin, Ga.) each added 11.

The two teams will meet again on February 13 in Hickory, North Carolina.

Both teams are in action again on Wednesday. C-N will host to Catawba at Holt Fieldhouse. Lenoir-Rhyne will travel to Wingate to face the Bulldogs. Both games begin at 6 p.m.
