JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles split a pair of games with Columbus State Tuesday afternoon in Jefferson City. She pitched out of a no-out, bases-loaded jam in the top of the first, after giving up a pair of infield hits. The third runner reached on a fielder's choice. Game 2 Carson-Newman (5-1) was its own worst enemy, as the Lady Eagles surrendered five unearned runs in dropping their first game of the year. C-N committed four errors behind her, including a key mistake in a five-run second inning for Columbus State (3-3).
Howard added a pair of hits in the loss, to finish with four on the day. Sophomore Sara Little (Calhoun, Ga.) was the victim of a stiff wind that wreaked havoc throughout the day.. The sophomore hit two balls in game two the were kept in the park by the stiff breeze. She finished with a pair of hits on the day, including a double in the second game.
