JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles used a 12-run inning and solid pitching to sweep Alderson-Broaddus, 15-0 and 5-0, Thursday afternoon at the Lady Eagle Softball Complex in Jefferson City.

Game 1

Carson-Newman (19-3) exploded in the first to quickly put the game out of reach, plating 12 first-inning runs in a 15-0 win.

Starter Zoe Heim (Gallatin, Tenn.) retired the Battlers in order in the first, and C-N's bats went to work.

Shortstop Jessie Howard (Knoxville, Tenn.) singled to lead-off. Jessie Kuhlman (Portage, Mich.) sacrificed her to second, then C-N began its offensive onslaught.

The next 12 Lady Eagles reached and scored, led by third baseman Mandy Stevens' (Knoxville, Tenn.) three-run home run to center and sophomore Stephanie Templeton's (Ringgold, Ga.) bases-clearing triple.

Stevens and Howard each finished with two hits in the inning, as the Lady Eagles took advantage of three walks and a hit-by-pitch.

Heim (WP, 10-2), who was named SAC Pitcher of the Week last week, worked three shutout innings for the win. Freshman Brittany Linton (Marietta, Ga.) worked the final two innings in relief.

Howard, the reigning SAC Player of the Week, finished 4-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs.

Game 2

Starter Stephanie Templeton fired a five-hit shutout and freshman Whitney Kee (Knoxville, Tenn.) had two hits and scored two runs as Carson-Newman completed its sweep of Alderson-Broaddus with a 5-0 win.

Templeton (WP, 9-1) struck out seven and did not allow a Battlers base-runner to reach third base in picking up her ninth with of the season.

Kee, who played both games in centerfield, went 2-for-2 from the eighth spot in the order.

She scored her first run of the game in the second, giving C-N a 2-0 lead. The Gibbs-product double to right, and later scored on a Howard single.

Senior Whitney Hickam finished 5-for-6 on the day with a pair of doubles. She was hit by a pitch twice.

C-N returns to action on Monday when it hosts Erskine. First pitch is at 2 p.m. at the Lady Eagles Softball Complex.
