Whiting Named Pac-West Player of the Year

March 20, 2007

Gold Canyon, AZ- The results of the Pac West Conference vote are in. What everybody knew already, proved to be true. Zack Whiting is the best player in the PacWest conference.

Whiting, now a three-time Pac West First Team Conference selection, was announced as the Pac West Player of the Year. The senior point guard, previously named as a First Team Daktronics West Region selection, is also up for the Cousy Award, going to the nation's best point guard regardless of level.

Whiting finished the season as the NCAA's assist leader in any division with 10.5 assists per game. This average was 1.7 assists per game in front of the second place player. The Chaminade guard was also 26th nationally in scoring with 20.9 ppg.

Marko Kolaric was also named a First Team selection for Chaminade. Kolaric finished just short of averaging a double-double, scoring 11.4 points a game along with 9.8 rebounds per contest. Kolaric's 9.8 rebounds were good enough for 18th best in the country.

Chaminade also received honorable mention nods. Junior guard Hayden Heiber, who averaged 7.5 ppg while shooting 43% from three and Stewart Kussler, a junior forward, (12.1 ppg, 5.3 rpg) both received Pac West Honorable Mention.

Completing the first team were Richard Davis and Bryan Lee of Grand Canyon and Lucas Alves of BYU-Hawaii (who was also named Freshman of the Year).

The second team was Eric Boyce and Wu Tai-Hao of BYU-Hawaii, Rudy Bogan of Grand Canyon, Samuel Wilhoite of UH-Hilo and Ryan Cooper of Notre Dame de Namur.

Other honorable mention selections were Paul Peterson of BYU-Hawaii, Justin Dobson of UH-Hilo, Rishi Kakad of Hawaii Pacific and Chris Clock of Notre Dame de Namur.

Scott Mossman of the Pac West Champions, Grand Canyon, was named Coach of the Year.

With Whiting being selected as Player of the Year, Chaminade has had the Player of the Year in the conference for two consecutive years. Chris Reaves won the award last year for the Silverswords.
