Oct. 7, 2006

Maui, HI- Another star-studded field is set to head to Lahaina, Maui for the 23rd annual EA Sports Maui Invitational. The Swords are set to match up with 2006 NCAA runner-up UCLA with the game set to be televised nationally on ESPN2.

Chaminade Men's Basketball is coming off a season in which new heights were reached. The Swords dominated the PacWest conference in 2005-06, winning the conference title, CUH guard Chris Reaves garnering the Pac West Player of the Year Award and Coach Matt Mahar receiving the conference's coach of the year honors. The 2005-06 campaign also marked the most wins in 17 years for the program.

The 2006-07 team will look to the returning veterans as well as seven incoming players to get back to the NCAA tournament and succeed in the always tough Pac West conference. The Swords will be led by Daktronics All-West Region and two-time All-Pac West point guard, Zack Whiting. Whiting, who averaged 14.1ppg, to go along with 7.9apg and 5 rebounds per contest, will be flanked by returning starting forward Stewart Kussler along with junior center Marko Kolaric.

The Swords open up in the 2006 EA Sports Maui Invitational along with first round opponent UCLA. Oklahoma, Memphis, Purdue, Georgia Tech, DePaul and Kentucky round out the impressive field. The tournament starts on Monday, November 20th and concludes two days later on Wedenesday, the 22nd.
