Jason Gomez

Heartbreak at Dark. Chaminade Men's Soccer Falls 2-1 in OT

Sept. 30, 2007

Final Stats

Honolulu, HI- This certainly is not last years Chaminade. Unfortunately, the Swords could not get a win out of tonight's effort.

The Swords came out and took the match to the Seasiders right away, as Jason Gomez scored in the fifth minute. Chaminade was tough throughout the half, BYU-Hawaii got shots, but rarely threatened. The Swords went to the break up 1-0.

The Seasiders stepped up their play to start the second half, getting good chances and finding the back of the net as Adam Maciejewski connected to knot the game at 1-1.

Darren Smith was huge in net, saving 11 shots and stopping a few would-be goals for BYU-Hawaii. Chaminade threatened late in the first half but could not muster a goal.

As overtime came, the game changed. A slight rain came down, affecting the light more than traction as the field turned dark. Both team had chances, but neither could score, until the bitter end. Trenton Read knocked in a rebound with just over a minute to go for the game-winner.

The game was a physical one, with six cards given during the match.

CUH is now 2-9-1, 0-3 in the Pac West, while BYU-Hawaii moves to 6-6, 2-1 in the Pac West.
