WSB Softball : CUH Splits 4 games With BYU Hawaii

Laie, HI The Chaminade Softball team spilt four games against BYU Hawaii over the course of two days, they took on the Seasiders twice yesterday and two more times today. The Silverswords won two out of the four games played the past few days.

For the first game Chaminade was led by junior, Brandi Sasaki. She had 2 of the 5 RBI's posted by the Silverswords, who won the first game 5 to 3. Freshman pitcher Chelsi Walls pitched 6 innings for CUH, she gave up 4 walks, 2 earned runs and one strike out for the 30 batters she faced. Chaminade came up huge in the Top of the 6th, senior Carolyn Fisher doubled to left center scoring one run and Brandi Sasaki doubled this time to right center, also batting in a run. Melissa Harris rounded out the Silverswords with a double of her own, also scoring a run the process. The wining pitcher in the first game was freshman, Chelsi Walls, with the win she moved to 1-1 overall.

The second game yesterday started out with Chaminade taking a 2 run lead into the bottom half of the fourth inning, BYU Hawaii scored 4 runs and never looked back, beating the Silverswords by a score of 5 to 3. CUH battled back in the top of the 5th with a run, however despite their best effort they ended up losing a close game to the Seasiders who scored one more run in the bottom of the 6th. Brandi Sasaki and Melissa Harris played well for the Silverswords, combined the two of them posted 5 of the 10 hits for Chaminade. Brandi Sasaki and Kristine Mihara both batted in a run and the Silverswords other run came on a steal at home plate by Krstine Mihara.

The first game today was a battle, Chaminade lost a close game by the score of 2 to 1. Chaminade got on the board first with a run batted in by single from senior captain, Iwalani Yamaguchi, scoring Syke Virtudes from third base who doubled a few batters before. BYU Hawaii battled back in the next inning scoring one run, the score was all tied up heading into the bottom of the seventh inning when BYU Hawaii scored the final run of the game on a single to the right side of the field. CUH was led by Chasity Senas who posted the only RBI for the Silverswords, she went 1 for 3 on the day. The Silverswords had 7 total hits as a team and only had two strikeouts as a team for the whole game. Kasy'e Lalau is charged with the loss, she is 0-1 on the year.

The Second game today was a blow out, the Silverswords dominated and won 13 to 5. Chaminade scored in every inning except for the top of the first and top of 5th inning, they scored two runs in the second, four runs in the third, one run in the fourth, five runs in the fifth and one run in the 6th inning.

CUH was led by freshman, Melissa Harris, she had 3 RBI's for Chaminade. She went 2 for 4 on the day and 8 put outs from first base. In the fifth inning of play, Chaminade hit the ball very well, Kristine ( Chiko) Mihara got the big inning started for the Silverswords with a single up the middle. Melissa Harris singled to the left side of the field and in the process she batted in her first RBI on the day. A couple of wild pitches by BYU Hawaii's pitcher Kathresha Veazie rounded out the huge inning for the Silverswords. At the end of 5 CUH was leading by a score of 12 to 5. They went on to score one more run in the top of the seventh inning and beat BYU Hawaii 13 to 5. The winning pitcher on the day was freshman Chelsi Walls, she gave up 6 hits, four walks on struck out two batters. She improves to 2-1 overall.

With the wins and losses of the past few days Chaminade stands at 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the Pacific West Conference, BYU Hawaii's record is 2-13 and 2-2 in the Pacific West Conference. The next game for the Silverswords is double header against BYU Hawaii and Hawaii Pacific on March 1st, 2008 at CORPS field. First pitch of the BYU Hawaii game is set for 3:00PM HT
