Final Stats

MEMPHIS--Visiting Williams Baptist used a three-run fifth inning to pull away and defeat the Christian Brothers University Bucs 6-1 Friday afternoon at Buc Field.

The Eagles (1-2) scored a run in each of the first two innings as Brandon Crook singled and scored in the first and hit a two-out RBI single in the second to score Jimmy Presley.

The Bucs (0-1) finally broke through in the fourth inning when sophomore left fielder Josh Shelton (Rosemark, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) launched a leadoff homer to center to pull CBU within a run. The Bucs loaded the bases with nobody out after an error, a walk, and a single, but after a popout, Eagle third baseman Tyler Pemberton made a diving catch on a line drive by Rocky Escajadillo (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) and turned a double play to end the inning.

The Eagles followed that with a one-out rally in the fifth, scoring three runs on three hits, two walks, and a successful suicide squeeze bunt. They tacked on another in the eighth when Presley scored after a leadoff walk.

David Reynolds earned the win for Williams Baptist, allowing one run on two hits and two walks in six innings, while Josh Mitchell earned the save with three scoreless innings of relief.

Sophomore first baseman Joseph Kaminski (Sherwood, Ark./Little Rock Catholic HS) went 2-for-4 for the Bucs, while Shelton and freshman Ryan McCabe (Richmond, Texas/Terry HS) each collected one hit.

Andy Arnold went 3-for-5 for WBC, while Crook, Reynolds, and Joaby Sikes each had two hits.

The Bucs will be back in action Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. when they take on Lambuth.
