Bucs Rally Past Eagles In Extra Innings

Feb. 21, 2008

Final Stats

JACKSON, Tenn.--The Christian Brothers University Bucs used a four-run 10th inning to earn a 9-5 win at Lambuth Wednesday afternoon.

The Bucs (3-4) scored five runs in the third inning, cashing in on three hits, a walk, a hit batter, and an error to erase what had been a 3-0 Lambuth lead. Rocky Escajadillo (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) started the inning with a single. After an error and a walk, Andrew Griffy (Arlington, Tenn./Bolton HS) hit an RBI single to put the Bucs on the board. After two sacrifice flies tied the game, Alvino Ramirez (Las Vegas, Nev./Centennial HS) ripped a two-run double that put CBU ahead 5-3. Ramirez finished 4-for-4 and reached base all five times up.

Lambuth (8-4) had taken a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second as Henry Sanchez capped a string of three straight base hits with a two-run single, then he scored on a Brad Barnes single.

The Eagles tied the game in the fifth, using three hits, a hit batter, and an error, eventually tying the game on a two-out RBI single by Bryan Willsey.

Both teams went to the bullpen after five innings, and they were rewarded. Ryan McCabe (Richmond, Texas/Terry HS) tossed two hitless innings for the Bucs before giving way to John Daush (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS), who blanked Lambuth for the final three innings to earn his first win. Meanwhile, Erick Sanchez threw three scoreless innings for the Eagles, followed by a perfect ninth from Matt Riley.

The Bucs finally broke through again in the 10th. Joseph Kaminski (Sherwood, Ark./Little Rock Catholic HS) singled to lead off the inning, and two intentional walks loaded the bases after a passed ball and a sacrifice bunt. With the bases loaded and two outs, Mark Foster (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) hit a two-run double that proved to be the game-winner. Griffy tacked on two insurance runs with another single, and Daush threw a perfect ninth to preserve the win.

Griffy finished 2-for-6 with three RBI, and Escajadillo went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

The Bucs will be back in action this weekend as they face Robert Morris-Springfield for a three-game series. Saturday's doubleheader is set to begin at noon.
